広岡五香湯
この薬は、産前産後の薬として「五香湯」と称され、非常に有名である。その製造を行う者は「廣岡五香屋」と呼ばれ、北廣岡村に本家と分家があり、毎月1日から15日までは本家で調合し、16日から月末までは分家で調合していた。この薬の製法は、もともと小立野石引町の奥村氏の家に仕えていた村田氏が伝えたもので、現在も村田氏の家で製造されている。
伝承によれば、昔、廣岡村のある百姓の娘が村田家の乳母となり、その子の代になったとき、乳母の功績に報いるために家伝の薬の処方を授けたという。そして時を経るごとにこの薬は名高くなったが、現在では村田家の五香湯を知る人は少なくなってしまった。この薬の伝来の歴史や、廣岡村へ伝わった時期については、村田家にも記録がなく、詳しいことは分からない。ただ代々伝承されてきたのみであるという。
さて、廣岡の五香屋は本家・分家ともにこの薬の製造を家業として栄えてきたが、近年になり、近隣の田某という醤油屋でも五香湯を調合し、薬として販売するようになった。しかし、中には「廣岡の五香湯はこの醤油屋が製造しているものだ」と誤解する者もおり、それが原因でトラブルが発生したということである。
English Version
This medicine, known as “Gokoutou,” is a well-known remedy for pre- and postnatal care. The producers of this medicine are called “Hirooka Gokouya,” and they have both a main house and a branch house in North Hirooka Village. The medicine is prepared at the main house from the 1st to the 15th of each month and at the branch house from the 16th to the end of the month.
The formula for this medicine was originally passed down by a certain Mr. Murata, who served the Okumura family in Koizumi Ishibikimachi. Even today, the Murata family continues to produce it.
According to legend, a farmer’s daughter from Hirooka Village once became a wet nurse for the Murata family. In the next generation, as a gesture of gratitude for her service, the family entrusted her with their secret medicinal formula. Over time, the medicine gained great fame, but today, few people are familiar with the Murata family’s Gokoutou. There are no written records of its transmission history or the exact period when it was introduced to Hirooka Village, even within the Murata family. It is said that the formula has simply been passed down through generations.
The Hirooka Gokouya, both the main and branch houses, have made a living from producing this medicine for generations. However, in recent years, a certain soy sauce brewer named “Tanaka” from a nearby area also started preparing and selling Gokoutou as a medicinal product. Some people mistakenly believed that the Hirooka Gokoutou was being produced by this soy sauce brewer, leading to disputes and conflicts over the matter.
